Carnival Cruise Lines takes delivery of its newest ‘Fun Ship’ the 3,006-passenger Carnival Splendor.

July 1, 2008

At 113,300-tons, the ship is the largest Carnival Cruise Lines vessel ever constructed.

The SuperLiner will sail on an eight-day inaugural voyage on July 2 from Genoa to Dover.

The ship will be officially named during a ceremony on July 10 presided over by its godmother, celebrity Myleene Klass.

Carnival Splendor will sail on a special three-day voyage to Amsterdam July 10-13, then launch the line’s first ex-UK Northern Europe cruise program featuring ports in Denmark, Germany, Russia, Finland, Estonia and Holland. The series of cruises runs until August 30.

The new class of vessel for Carnival features a two-level, 21,000-square-foot spa which houses a thalassotherapy pool, a thermal suite and 17 private treatment rooms. Adjacent to the spa will be 68 spa cabins and suites.

Other features include a two-deck-high children’s play area along with a water park, and a mid-ship pool covered by a magradome and featuring Carnival’s Seaside Theater, a 270-square-foot LED screen displaying movies, concerts and other programming.

Following its Northern Europe schedule, Carnival Splendor will operate a 12-day Western Europe cruise departing September 11 followed by “Grand Mediterranean” and “Mediterranean, Greece & Turkey” voyages.

A 16-day transatlantic crossing from Rome (Civitavecchia) to Fort Lauderdale in Florida will depart on October 29.

The ship will operate a winter schedule of seven-day Caribbean voyages from Fort Lauderdale followed by Carnival’s first series of 14- to 18-day South American voyages.

These will position Carnival Splendor for year-round seven-day Mexican Riviera departures from Long Beach, California beginning on March 29, 2009.
